We take your privacy seriously (seriously seriously). This policy explains how the Deduction Grabber app collects, uses, stores, and protects your information. By using the app, you're agreeing to how we do things — no shady stuff, promise.

1. Who We Are

Deduction Grabber is a mobile app developed to help you track deductible expenses, snap receipts, and get tax-ready without the shoebox full of faded dockets.
We’re proudly supported by GoTax.com.au — Australia’s leading no-nonsense online tax return service for individuals, tradies, and sole traders.

2. What We Collect

We only collect what’s needed to help you log expenses and make tax time a breeze.
When you use Deduction Grabber, we may collect:

  • Personal details (like your name and email, if you create an account or link with GoTax)
  • Deduction data - expense amounts, categories, notes, and receipts
  • Device info - model, OS, crash logs (used for improving app performance)
  • Usage data - how you interact with the app (so we can make it even better)

3. App Permissions

To work properly, Deduction Grabber may request access to:

  • Camera - to take photos of receipts (only when you say yes)
  • Storage - to save and retrieve files on your device

    • We’ll never access your contacts, messages, or location — that’s just weird and unnecessary.

4. How We Use Your Info

We use your data to:

  • Help you record, organise, and store deductible expenses
  • Sync with your GoTax account (if connected)
  • Improve app functionality through bug tracking and feature usage stats
  • Comply with any legal obligations we might have as an Aussie tax-related product

We do not sell your information or serve you creepy ads. Not now, not ever.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for five (5) years, in line with Australian tax record-keeping laws. You can delete your account or request your data be removed at any time (unless we need to keep it for legal reasons).

6. Data Storage & Security

Your data is stored either:

  • Locally on your device (when offline), or
  • Securely in the cloud, encrypted and protected by high-grade security measures

We regularly review our security practices to keep your data safe from digital nasties.

7. Sharing of Data

We only share your data:

  • With GoTax.com.au, if you connect your Deduction Grabber account to GoTax for easier tax return prep
  • With third-party providers who help us host or maintain the app (they don’t get to use your data for anything else)
  • If required by law (e.g. subpoena, warrant, ATO compliance etc.)

No sales. No marketers. No loopholes.

8. Your Rights

You’re in control. You can:

  • Access or update your stored info
  • Delete expenses or receipts
  • Request account deletion
  • Opt out of marketing comms (we don’t send many anyway)

If you’re syncing with GoTax, your rights also extend under GoTax’s Privacy Policy.

9. Cookies & Tracking

Deduction Grabber does not use cookies. However, we may use anonymised in-app analytics (e.g., via Firebase) to understand what features you love and where we can improve.

10. Children's Privacy

This app isn’t designed for children under 16. If a 12-year-old is logging deductions, we’re impressed, but this app’s for grown-ups (or at least grown-up income earners).

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we do, we’ll let you know via the app or on this page. You're always welcome to check back here and have a stickybeak.
